Wisconsin Oak Tree Removal

Wisconsin oaks are slow growing hardwood trees with beautiful, eye-catching growth patterns and leaves. Our state is home to at least eight different types of oak trees, with the most common being white oak, bur oak and black oak. Wisconsinites have long held respect for oak trees, even naming trails after them like the Oak Leaf Trail that runs through Milwaukee.

REASONS TO REMOVE AN OAK TREE

While it is uncommon to remove healthy oaks, they can become a safety hazard when they rot or are damaged. Hazardous trees must be removed immediately by trained professionals to avoid injury and damage to nearby property. Oak trees may also need to be removed for new construction, land development or when their growth threatens existing structures.

Wisconsin's 6 most Common Oak Tree Diseases

Armillaria Root Rot

Symptoms: Slow growth, chlorotic foliage, dieback, presence of light-colored mushrooms at the base.

Oak Leaf Blister

Symptoms: Circular raised areas on upper leaf surfaces, yellow-brown depressions on lower surfaces.

Bacterial Leaf Scorch (BLS)

Symptoms: Browning of leaf margins, yellow border between browned and green tissue.

Oak Wilt

Symptoms: Top-down tree death, wilting leaves with bronzing along edges.

Oak Anthracnose

Symptoms: Water-soaked, blighted, or blotchy foliage, gray-colored lesions on leaves.

Hypoxylon Canker

Symptoms: Dead lesions on limbs, branches, and trunks, thinning canopy.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR OAK TREE IS DEAD OR DAMAGED

Trunk damage, splits in the wood, hollow trees and large dead branches can all be a sign that your oak tree is dead or diseased and should be removed. The leaves of dying oak trees will usually yellow and eventually fall off. Mushrooms or fungal growth near the base is typically a dead giveaway that the tree has suffered irreversible root decay. CutNGo employs ISA-certified arborists who can identify which of your oak trees can be salvaged and which must come down.
